Wheww, made it home just hours ago. This was my first time flying in about 6 years. The flight out was without incident. Coming back I was in a hurry to make my flight and forgot to take my lap top out of my carry on. Immediately I was flagged by some woman, who was obviously ticked that her routine was debased. After running my bags thru again with the lap top out, she confiscated my toothpaste and old spice after shave. She claimed we are only allowed a smaller sum of liquid items, and I could return to the main ticket booth to get my bags checked.
I made the flight with 5 minutes to spare and we had a successful flight. My seat was in the front and so I used the front Southwest Airlines toilet. However because I'm tall and old I couldn't stand and urinate, the plane frame or cabin body was designed for shorter people to evacuate there. I quickly told the male steward (an obvious gay man) and he wasn't much of a help. I asked if the toilet in the back of the plane had more head room and was told "no", "they are the same". I reminded him that this was a return flight for me and the last Southwest plane had the proper head room in the back, and he told me " that there are a few designs of planes they use, and maybe the other one was a different kind of plane".
Wow! I had almost 4 more hours of flight and no place to pee. I sat down, and then I decided to check the back of the plane toilet anyway. Low and behold it had the higher head space and I relieved myself. I went back to the gay sounding flight guy up front and told him he was wrong, and his response was verbatim "whatever you say".
Now pardon me if I sound pissed off, but this guy might have left me sitting in wet pants for hours if I hadn't taken the initiative. I have already passed this complaint on with a Southwest flight attendent, and she remarked that she herself didn't know the toilets had different head room heights.
I am considering taking this complaint a bit further, as this was a horrible act of discrimination to me, ( the victim always see it much worse than a casual observer). What do you think? Any input would be appreciated. What will happen to the next tall elderly person that needs to pee in the front toilet and can't ? Will he/she be told something like "too bad" and left to fend for themsleves?
